Our Story
GVH Distribution and its Family of Companies trace their roots back to 1949, when Gage Van Horn founded Gage Van Horn & Associates, Inc. in Pecos, Texas. Founded on a strong commitment to service and reliability, the company initially focused on business forms, labels, filing supplies, and filing equipment—laying the foundation for a values-driven organization rooted in trust and long-term relationships.
In 1963, Gage Van Horn’s son-in-law, Charles “Buddy” Furgerson, joined the business as a salesperson in Lubbock, Texas. His leadership and forward-thinking approach helped guide the company through its next phase of growth. By 1975, the home office relocated to Lubbock, where Buddy became General Manager. Since 1983, Buddy and his wife, Beth, have served as owners and visionaries of the company, continuing the legacy of family leadership and strategic growth.
Under their direction, Gage Van Horn expanded across Texas with locations in Dallas, San Angelo, Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, and Lubbock. Always focused on innovation and diversification, Buddy recognized the importance of evolving with customer needs. In 1994, Gage Van Horn welcomed the next generation of leadership when Joe Schmidt, Buddy and Beth’s son-in-law, joined the company as Sales Manager. Joe would later become President and Managing Partner, helping guide the company into a period of rapid growth and national expansion. Today, Joe Schmidt serves as Executive Chairman and Owner, continuing to lead the organization with a long-term, relationship-focused vision.
In 2003, GVH/Millennium Distribution, Ltd. was formed through a strategic partnership to service United Supermarkets. While GVH and Millennium later became independent companies, they continued to maintain a strong professional relationship. GVH remains a trusted distributor of labels, packaging, and supplies to United Supermarkets/Albertsons stores across Texas and New Mexico. During this time, GVH Distribution pioneered one of the first online ordering systems and cross-dock programs in the country—setting a new standard in distribution efficiency.
Growth continued with the acquisition of Miller Paper & Packaging in 2006, expanding GVH’s product offerings to include foodservice, janitorial, and industrial packaging supplies. In 2007, GVH opened its Amarillo distribution center to service Affiliated Foods, Inc., becoming the first truly “live” cross-dock operation in the United States.
Strategic acquisitions and expansions followed:
-
Blaine Industrial Supply (2008) in Hobbs, NM
-
A Northwest expansion beginning in Spokane, WA (2009), now located in Post Falls, ID
-
Oaks Distributing (2011) in Midland, TX specializing in carwash chemicals, janitorial, and industrial supplies
-
New distribution facilities in Salt Lake City, UT and Chicago, IL (2012)
In 2016, GVH acquired Corley Paper Box Co., now Corley Oaks Distribution, further strengthening its presence in West Texas. Additional GVH facilities opened in Seattle, WA (now Fife, WA), Southern California, Ennis, TX (now Humble, TX), Kansas City, MO, and Lebanon, TN—expanding GVH’s national footprint coast to coast.
In 2024, GVH leveraged its operational expertise to launch GVH 3PL in Lubbock and MYWAY3PL in Houma, Louisiana, while also acquiring Diversified Warehouse in Odessa, Texas—further diversifying its logistics and fulfillment capabilities.
Today, GVH Distribution and its Family of Companies are among the fastest-growing independent distributors in the country, serving national, regional, and local customers across multiple industries. Despite its growth, GVH remains grounded in the belief that its greatest asset is its people. The company strongly believes it is only as good as the employees who support its customers every day, and that commitment continues to guide GVH’s future.
